Veggie Season

This game was made during the Epic Megajam 2025. The theme of this jam was "Here we go again". And as this is my third game jam now I thought to myself. Thats fitting.

The idea behind the game is, that you play as a retired person, who decided to become a hobby farmer. One level equals one year, but every year you get more plant plots, more space and with that you have to pay more rent by the end of the year. You have to grow your crops, collect fertilizer from your cows and harvest your plants to have enough money by the end of the year. If you do extra well, you will end up with extra money which you can spent on upgrades that help you be more efficient during the next year.

Since you play year by year I thought that was very fitting with the theme, since the game loop is very reptitive, which is due to the nature of it being a roguelike-ish.

Important to notice is that I used 3D-Asset packs for this game. Except of those and a few sound effects everything was done by myself within a week. I wrote 4 songs for this project, created Icons and small 2D assets, used a combination of blueprints and c++ to program, designed the levels, game loop and idea, assorted the assets to create cute levels and most importantly created the model for the cow poop. I also touched some of the assets to make a season transition effect. I listed all the assets that I used down below. NO AI was used for this project.

Controls:

WASD - Movement

1, 2, 3, 4 - Equip Tool/Item from your Toolbar

E - Interact

The Interaction with your plant plots is different depending which item you currently hold.

1 - Planting

2 - Watering

3 - Harvest Tool

4 - Fertilizer

Game Loop

At the start of each year, you choose a new plant seed, which will be added to your growing repertoire. Then the farming season begins: plant your crops, fill your watering can at the pond, water your plants, and gather poop from your cows to use as fertilizer.

When the year ends and winter arrives, you'll have to pay your rent. If you've earned enough money, any extra cash can be spent on upgrades that help you work more efficiently in the next season. And then you simply go again. With more plant plots, larger fields, and the increasing challenge of keeping everything under control.
